Meet the team
As an organisation, we have a combined knowledge of in excess of a 100 years experience of working within Children's Safeguarding, whether that be from an education or social care perspective. We are small, and we only offer Safeguarding Services pertaining to the protection of children and young people. Our services are bespoke, we work closely with our customers, to ensure we deliver the best service possible. We don't try to be 'all things to all people', we 'do' Children's Safeguarding, and we do it well! All of our trainers have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of all the fundamental child safeguarding legislation and documentation, including, but not exclusively; Children Act 1989, 2004, Child and Social Work Act 2017, Keeping Children Safe in Education 2024, Working Together to Safeguarding Children 2023, The Fostering Regulation 2011, The National Minimum Standards of Foster Care 2004, the establishment, and workings of Local Child Safeguarding Partnerships; the establishment and workings of the Child Safeguarding Practice Review Panel. An in-depth knowledge and understanding of child safeguarding policies and procedures and the roles and responsibilities of designated safeguarding leads and named safeguarding professionals across the children’s workforce, including expectations of best practice in keeping children and young people safe.
Nigel Leeder - Senior Consultant, Trainer and DirectorAs a Director and Senior Trainer & Consultant, Nigel has the ability to liaise and communicate with professionals from across the children’s workforce, gained from over 30 years’ experience of multi-agency working in child safeguarding at a management level, across various Local Authorities. During his time working within Local Authorities, Nigel gained experience in chairing multi-agency forums, for example, Local Safeguarding Children Board sub-committees on Serious Case Reviews, Child Criminal Exploitation and Policies and Procedures. Chairing Serious Case Review Rapid Review meetings; Chairing Channel Panels. Nigel has the ability to put other professionals at their ease whilst discussing sensitive, delicate, and confidential issues. The ability to communicate effectively with professionals, families and children or young person to gain their point of view of the matters in hand. The ability to co-ordinate, correlate and assimilate information from a variety of sources and to prioritise and organise that information into a concise, anonymised report, in a timely fashion.

Nigel also has over thirty five years’ experience of school governance, including 10 years continuous service on a Primary School governing body, the last 5 of those as Chair, and still Chair of Governors in a Senior School. Drafting the Terms of Reference for more than ten Serious Case Reviews, including discussing the requirements with Independent Authors around timescales and budget, Learning the Lessons Multi-agency meetings, presenting initial draft SCRs to Local Child Safeguarding Boards, supporting the formulation of Actions and Recommendations from the Review and managing the completion of the Action Plans. Over twenty years’ experience of delivering child safeguarding training to multi-agency delegates on all aspects of child safeguarding.
Nigel is the Chair of the Fostering Panel for an independent fostering agency. He has delivered hundred's of hours training to Foster Carers and the agency's that support them.
After a very long and successful flying career in the Royal Air Force, I went on to work for over twenty years in Children’s Services, delivering 1000’s of hours training to professionals and carers working with and supporting children, young people and families. Working in various counties across East Anglia, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, I am now based in South Yorkshire.
In my spare time, I have a love of music and was for ten years the Musical Director of a youth orchestra in Lincolnshire and a Peripatetic Music Teacher. I am also Chair and Safeguarding Governor of an Ofsted Rated Outstanding Senior School in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
Providing training, support, advice and guidance especially to those whose day job is working with children, young people and families is extremely rewarding. They have the challenge of working directly with children and families and being able to offer both professionals and carers an opportunity to reflect on working practice, skills and communication, especially around Safeguarding and Child Development brings its own reward.

Emma Leeder - Social Care Fostering Consultant and DirectorEmma handles the strategic side of the business, and manages the finances and growth of the Organisation. Emma has a proven background in driving growth and transformation of organisations within the Social Care and Fostering setting. Within Leeder Safeguarding, Emma takes on the pivotal role of ensuring compliance and internal Quality and Assurance.
Having leveraged their over 20 years of experience in vulnerable adult and children services to design and deliver comprehensive safeguarding, child protection, and business solution training. Their success lies in their ability to consult with Registered Managers, Nominated Individuals, and Designated Safeguarding Leads, enabling organisations to meet CQC and Ofsted requirements while fostering collaborative cultures that promote safeguarding and compliance within social services. |
Emma has gained a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, compliance standards, and legal obligations. Emma has remained ahead of updates to statutory and regulatory requirements, ensuring that the organisation is compliant with current and future legislation. Previously Emma has successfully managed complex transitions, resource optimisation, and commissioning negotiations, adding value through effective communication, problem-solving skills, and solid performance metrics.
Extending their impact within their own business has been exciting, due to the alignment of their consultancy work with the needs to drive regulatory compliance, quality improvement and programmes internally and externally. Emma consistently demonstrates the ability to ensure compliance, manage contractual obligations, and influence in liaisons with senior leaders to advocate for the needs of both service users and regulatory requirements. Moreover, their extensive experience in Safeguarding has been key to providing compliance training, with the insight of having delivered to many organisations key to developing a best practice approach.
Michelle Binns - Training & Consultancy Expert
Michelle has been delivering Safeguarding Training and Consultancy work for for Leeder Safeguarding for around 2 years. Michelle has worked in Education for 34 years, nearly 20 years as a headteacher, working in 2 schools in 2 different local authorities. Both schools had higher than National figures of deprivation. At one of these schools, Michelle was involved in building the new school along with developing and establishing a Children Centre provision. Michelle therefore, has extensive experience in working with multi-agency teams.
Michelle also has extensive experience of developing and leading training for the wide range of adults who work within a school and across a trust. Also delivering INSET CPD for many agencies in relation to multi agency team working. |
Michelle is also our First Aid Training Lead, and delivers this training to children, young people and is qualified to deliver to adults too.
Michelle's safeguarding knowledge is comprehensive due to their commitment to CPD and experience of working with many different agencies to support children and families in crisis.
In her spare time, Michelle and her husband enjoy travelling, they have a beautiful collie dog and a motorhome, which is used extensively. They have one grandchild, who also keeps Michelle on her toes.

Jenny Davis - Training & Consultancy ExpertJenny has worked in Education for 27 years mostly with challenging children, young people and their families. Jenny has been delivering training and consultancy services for Leeder Safeguarding for nearly 3 years. Jenny has 12 years experience as a Senior Leader and Designated Safeguarding Lead in a Special School and Pupil Referral Unit for children and young people with Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) and Autism. Leadership and management of the Pastoral Team which included 3 Deputy DSL's, the Attendance Officer, the Therapy team and the Care Team. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Jenny was also responsible for the development of the curriculum, producing policies and safeguarding training both for the school community and external schools and agencies.

Also trained with the NSPCC and Lucy Faithful foundation to deliver Safeguarding and Safer Recruitment training across schools in Barnsley and other external agencies.
