We have now developed a modularised training programme to give foster carers and professionals the tools and knowledge they need to be able to successfully offer and supervise parent and child placements. The training is split into the following modules and will be delivered over 5 sessions.

Child Development Training
This training considers various recognised approaches towards child development and considers ways of supporting and strengthening the resilience of children and young people
The aims of the training are:

To have had the opportunity to consider the different stages and patterns of physical, cognitive, social and emotional child development.
To analyse the impact of parental lifestyle factors, abuse and or neglect on child development.
To have an opportunity to apply knowledge and understanding of child development to the assessment of children's needs.

Attachment Theory Training

Attachment Theory is a Psychological Model attempting to describe the dynamics of long term and short term interpersonal relationships between humans.
The aims of the training are:

To identify the different types of attachment and their theoretical background.
To consider the impact on the developing brain and neurological research.
To explore the impact of attachment styles.
To recognise signs and symptoms within attachment styles.
To explore models of working with attachment and difficulties in intimacy.

Managing Challenging Behaviour Training

Managing Challenging Behaviour: What causes it and how to manage it. Managing challenging behaviour can be incredibly stressful for both professionals and carers. An outburst may be a known reaction to a daily activity or it can be out of the blue, leaving you struggling to work out what has caused it
The aims of this training are:

To understand the different types of Challenging Behaviour and how they may manifest themselves in children and young people.
To gain an understanding of the causes of Challenging Behaviour and how to identify the triggers.
To better understand how to monitor behaviour, both challenging and good.
To better understand how to manage Challenging Behaviour in the moment.
To better understand how to manage Challenging Behaviour in the longer term

Adverse Childhood Experiences Training
Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE's) have a tremendous impact on brain development, future violence, victimisation, perpetration and lifelong health and social problems.
The aims of the training are:

To give professionals and carers a better understanding of what Adverse Childhood Experiences are.
To understand what they different types of childhood trauma are.
To give professionals and carers a better understanding of the 5 Principles of Trauma Informed Care.
To better understand the key components to Trauma Informed Care

Teen Vulnerabilities & Exploitation Training
The range and nature of adolescent risks are different to those facing younger and older age groups. 10% of 11-17 year olds in the UK have experienced more than 12 forms of maltreatment during their lifetime.
The aims of this training are:

To better understand the risk taking and secretive nature of adolescents and how vulnerable that makes them to sexual and other forms of exploitation.
To have an understanding of Attachment Theory as a way of understanding how people become ensnared in abusive situations, why they frequently don't leave and / or tell somebody.
To gain an understanding of trauma bonds as an explanation for victims retracting allegations and / or re-engaging with abusers even after a spell of no contact.
To gain an understanding of the psychological theory used to address how some people are multiply abused by offenders who have no connection with one another.
To gain an understanding of practical guidance on how to work more effectively with vulnerable adolescents.

Self Harm Awareness Training

This course will give professionals and carers a basic awareness of the subject of Self Harm. It will give them the confidence to broach the subject with the children and young people they care.
The aims of this course are:

To give an opportunity to consider what constitutes deliberate self-harm and the individuals need to deliberately self-harm.
To consider the impacts of cultural background, social impact and the impact of media.
To develop an awareness of the commonly used methods of deliberate self-harm and the evidence and findings of current research and studies.
To have the opportunity to discuss and reflect on their own experiences of working with children and young people who self-harm and consider the issue of confidentiality versus safeguarding and information sharing.
Gain an understanding of helpful strategies and interventions suitable for use at universal levels.

Working Together to Safeguard Children - 2018 Training

This course will give professionals an in depth understanding of the Statutory Guidance from the Department for Education, which sets out what organisations and agencies that have function relating to children must and should do to safeguard and promote the welfare of all children and young people under the age of 18 in England.
The aims of the course are:

To give professionals the opportunity to develop their knowledge of safeguarding children, protocols and procedures.
To have an understanding of the safeguarding and child Protection systems as a whole and each agencies role within that system.
To have the opportunity to explore some of the challenges of working together within a locality.
To understand the need for effective information sharing and communication within Multi-Agency Working.
To be able to work in a way that is child centred and in partnership with children, parents and carers.

Keeping Children Safe In Education - 2021 (KCSIE 2021)

This course will give an in depth understanding of the Statutory Guidance from the department for Education. School and Colleges in England must have regard to it when carrying out their duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
The aims of this course are:

To provide safeguarding information for all staff.
To provide information on the management of safeguarding.
To give schools a specific understanding of the requirements for safer recruitment.
To give school staff an understanding of the mechanisms for managing allegations of abuse made against teachers and other staff.
To give school staff an understanding of how to respond to child on child sexual violence and sexual harassment.
